Changing the Story, Transforming Lives
Facts and figures matter, but they can’t dismantle entrenched systems like youth incarceration and unstable housing on their own. To bring about real change, we need to tell better stories that not only educate and inspire but also serve as catalysts that transform our communities and society. To that end, AHSHAY has brought a new storyteller onto the team, a communications specialist, who will help us drive impactful change and develop strategic narratives—co-created by youth—that resonate in our communities and beyond.
Stories That Create Change
Our Narrative Strategies initiative touches every aspect of our work, from the Story Book Project to the True Dawgs Documentary. Through broad partnerships across Washington State, we’re amplifying youth voices that challenge the status quo.
Working alongside youth, youth justice advocates and organizations, we’re currently gathering positive stories of young people who’ve thrived through alternatives to incarceration. These narratives will reach audiences through social media, newsletters, op-eds, earned media, and our website—building momentum for critical sentencing reforms for youth.
Building a Movement
We’re implementing this vision through clear and compelling messaging, an expanded social media presence, a cohesive communications strategy, and a growing network of supporters. By crafting narratives that spark thought and inspire action, we’re becoming stronger partners to the individuals and organizations who share our commitment to transformation.
